Midcoast Habitat Joins Habitat for Humanity’s First-Ever Rural Rally

Midcoast Habitat for Humanity was honored to be one of more than 70 affiliates chosen to participate in Habitat for Humanity International’s first-ever Rural Rally, part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. This flagship effort brings thousands of volunteers together each year to honor the Carters’ legacy of service, faith, and love in action.

Our Local Impact

Right here in Rockland, we are completing the redevelopment of 47 Lawn Avenue, a formerly condemned property that has now been transformed into 2 new Habitat homes. This project is helping to improve the neighborhood and create safe, affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.

As part of the Rural Rally weekend, we dedicated the first home on October 26, 2025, and welcomed volunteers on October 27, 2025, to help complete work on the second home. The energy, generosity, and time given by our community and volunteers made a direct and immediate difference.

What Comes Next

Our work does not end at Lawn Avenue. We are preparing to break ground on Compass Point, a 10-home pocket neighborhood in Rockport that will be the first of its kind in the area. We are also in the planning stages of a new development in Thomaston. These projects reflect our long-term commitment to building safe, stable, affordable housing in the Midcoast.

Building on 35 Years of Service

For 35 years, Midcoast Habitat has worked alongside volunteers, donors, partners, and future homeowners to create real solutions to the housing crisis in Knox County. Every home represents stability, security, and opportunity for a local family. Every build reflects what is possible when a community comes together.

How You Can Get Involved

You can continue to support this work in several ways:

  • Volunteer on an upcoming build site

  • Donate to help us build more permanently affordable homes for working families in Knox County

  • Support our ReStore, where every purchase and every donated item helps fund our mission

After the Rural Rally

The Rural Rally may have come and gone, but there are still many meaningful ways to support the work it represents. You can make a donation to help fund future builds, organize a collection through your workplace, school, or faith group, or help spread the word about the ongoing need for affordable housing in our community. Every action, big or small, helps us build strength, stability, and hope for local families. Together, we’re continuing to turn a vision into a neighborhood.

Contact us at 207-236-6123 or maggi@midcoasthabitat.org for more information on how you can get involved.
