We at Midcoast Habitat for Humanity are deeply saddened by the passing of President Jimmy Carter. He was not only a genuine friend to Habitat for Humanity but also an enduring symbol of selfless service, dedicating his life to helping others and strengthening communities.
President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, became passionate advocates for Habitat for Humanity after their initial volunteer experience in 1984. Their commitment to building homes, communities, and hope perfectly aligned with Habitat’s mission, inspiring countless others to join in the effort.
For decades, the Carters’ unwavering dedication brought global attention to Habitat’s work, turning it into a worldwide movement. To date, Habitat for Humanity has helped build or repair over 1 million homes in more than 70 countries. Here in Midcoast Maine, we carry forward this legacy through the construction and repair of affordable homes that provide families with stability and the opportunity to thrive.
President Carter’s advocacy for affordable housing reflected his lifelong belief in social justice and the power of collective action. His legacy of compassion, community, and dignity is deeply woven into the fabric of Habitat for Humanity, continuing to inspire volunteers, families, and supporters across the globe.
As we reflect on his remarkable contributions, we honor his enduring impact and remain steadfast in our commitment to his vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
From building new homes and weatherizing existing ones to helping at the ReStore and working behind the scenes on our committees, there are many ways to volunteer.
Every donation of money, land, and materials supports the house-building and hope-building work of Midcoast Habitat.
