Energy Efficient Education

Midcoast Habitat for Humanity weatherized 10 Knox County, Maine homes in winter 2013 through a new program that allows us to help even more families in need.

Maine is home to the oldest housing stock in the country, and many families who have made the leap to home ownership still struggle to heat and maintain their homes. Our Step One Weatherization Program provides cost-effective energy efficiency measures, including weather-stripping, pipe insulation, and basic air sealing, to low-income households.  Homeowners learn about energy efficiency and invest 25 hours of sweat equity in exchange for the improvements, which have a two-day, $500 cap.

The program will eventually expand to tackle more advanced, customized efficiency measures based on the recommendations of qualified energy auditors. Interested in contributing to Step One’s success and laying the groundwork for Step Two? Join our Weatherization effort and help make a big difference.
